Southern Combat specialises in teaching safe, fun, reality martial arts and fitness to people of all ages and abilities within Surrey and West Sussex. Our instructor is insured, registered and licensed with a leading UK martial arts governing body, and all of our training is specially designed to offer affordable and practical self defence training in a safe environment.
We’re a friendly, local martial arts club that focuses on teaching reality martial arts in a way that is safe, fun and combined with fitness. If you’ve never heard of the term ‘reality martial arts’ – it means practising martial arts that are focused on real-life application. We don’t wear gi’s (traditional uniforms with belts), we don’t bow to one another or maintain traditional practices (such as long stances, or katas/forms) – instead we focus on learning techniques and skills that will protect you against the threats you’ll face in the real world. We do this in a fun, safe open class environment so everyone can get sweaty, learn some top quality martial arts and get fit in one big hit, without any faffing about!
Our classes are safe and professionally run. Giovanni has been involved in martial arts since childhood and has a real passion for teaching. You’ll enjoy professional, qualified supervision from a martial arts expert dedicated to helping you learn real martial arts. You can find out more about the specifics of each class using the menu at the top, and finding the class you’re interested in. Our club offers a warm welcome to people of all ages and abilities.
You don’t need to have done martial arts before, and if you have, regardless of the usual politics – we welcome you to come along and train hard with us!

The Calderdale Family Tang Soo Do Karate classes started in 2012 and the membership is gradually growing. The classes are part of a wider network of Tang Soo Do Karate clubs in the north of England. Tang Soo Do is a traditional martial art from Korea and is often referred to as Korean Karate. Our Tang Soo Do classes focus upon the traditional martial arts values of fitness, confidence, respect, and discipline. These values are balanced against providing a family friendly environment and making classes enjoyable for everyone. We offer a full martial arts programme for members to practice. This includes, various punching, kicking and striking techniques, forms, self defence, sparring, and weapons practice. The syllabus therefore provides a great way for families and friends to take part and progress in an activity together. If you have previously practiced martial arts, that’s great and this should get you off to a great start. If not, don’t worry, we know how daunting going to your first martial arts class can be, but we will try to put you at ease and make you feel welcome. Please wear loose clothing to train in, for example, a tracksuit. We practice in bare feet, so you won’t even need a pair of trainers. Come and join us at one of our classes in Halifax. Please visit our website at http://www.calderdalefamilykarate.com for further information.
